Bible Focus

This week we consider Psalm 40. It’s a great Psalm to read when we feel as if we’re stuck in a desolate pit or a miry bog! But it also speaks about how God had a better plan for humankind than the Old Testament system of animal sacrifices. This Psalm is often seen as a messianic Psalm, looking ahead to the coming of Jesus. Our ‘But God’ statement for this week reminds us that God is concerned with the attitude of our hearts above all rather than external forms of worship or offerings. That is the one sacrifice he truly desires from us, in response to the selfless sacrifice of Jesus on the cross.
