Church of Scotland Day of Prayer
The Church of Scotland has unveiled details of A Day of Prayer to bring more of the light of Jesus into the world. The event will be held on Saturday 31 October when congregations, presbyteries and small groups have been urged to come together in person to pray for one hour. Here in Barrhead St Andrew's, we will be meeting for a prayer breakfast at 9.30am on Saturday 31st.
Congregations are being encouraged to pray for the light of Jesus to transform the Church of Scotland and communities throughout Scotland, and across the world in the places where the Church worships and serves. And to reflect the theme of light, events that are organised to celebrate the Day of Prayer will be lit up on a special digital map on the Church's website.
Rev Scott McRoberts, Convener of the Church of Scotland's Mission Support Programme Group, said: "We're inviting as many people in the Church of Scotland as possible to join in with praying for our Church and for our communities. We know that darkness is real - in our experience as churches over recent years, and in the experience of our communities across Scotland. But we are people who know that light is real too. Found in Jesus. Bigger than darkness. Always overcoming. We would also love churches to add your light to our map on the Church of Scotland website. Please do sign up."
For those who can't make it to an in-person event, or for those who would like to be part of a national gathering for prayer on 31 October, there will be a live-streamed service from West Kilbride Parish Church in North Ayrshire at 11am, and an online prayer gathering on MS Teams at 4pm.
